At Gonzales Chiropractic, we see patients with a wide variety of pain, disease and injury. Below we have listed some of the more common types of conditions that patients who visit our practice exhibit. Our goal is to seek the underlying causes of these conditions so we can not only provide quick and effective relief but prevent any re-occurrence in the future.

Allergies

Chiropractic care provides long term relief from allergy symptoms. Unlike anti-histamines, which provide a direct, short term relief of allergies, chiropractic care allows your body to be better equipped to fight against allergies. Allergies are an adverse reaction of the immune system to allergens which result in symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, hives, rashes, congestion and, in severe cases, seizure and anaphylactic shock. These symptoms are caused by the histamines your immune system creates in an attempt to protect your body against the allergen.

When Dr. Gonzales aligns the spine properly, the nervous system is able to function at its peak level. Since the immune system is tied directly to the nervous system, chiropractic adjustments can in turn provide the body with the ability to fight off symptoms of allergies naturally. This provides for a long term solution to allergies, rather than a quick fix.

Disc Problems (Herniated / Bulging Discs)

Intervertebral discs are located between the vertebrae in the spine. The outside of the discs are made from cartilage and the insides consist of a jelly-like solution. Spinal discs have many functions including allowing the spine to move, creating space in between the vertebrae and acting as shock absorbents. The gelatinous center of each disc allow the disc itself to compress and expand based on the movement of the spine.

Trauma to the spine can cause the discs to herniate, bulge, slip or even rupture. Although trauma is the main culprit to disc injuries, old age can also cause the discs to weaken or dehydrate. These disc injuries place pressure on the nerves and can cause both chronic and acute pain. When Dr. Gonzales adjusts the spine, he helps to properly align the vertebrae and relieve pressure on the discs and nerves. This reduces pain and allows the patient to live a normal lifestyle.

Whiplash (Auto Accident Injuries)

Whiplash symptoms can start as soreness or stiffness in the neck and can be accompanied by headache, fatigue, jaw pain, arm pain and more. In more serious cases, patients exhibit depression and sleep disorders. Whiplash injuries are the most common type of injury in automobile accidents. The symptoms can often be delayed. If they are not treated quickly and properly, it can lead to more serious disorders.

Chiropractic care adjusts the spine and neck to alleviate stress on the nervous system and allow the body to naturally heal itself from whiplash injuries.

Osteoarthritis

Arthritis is a condition caused by the wearing down of cartilage between the joints. Joints that are most effected by osteoarthritis are the knees, hips, neck, back, hands and wrists. While painkillers can cause temporary relief from pain and discomfort, they are just a short term fix. When Dr. Gonzales performs adjustments to the knees, hands, back and neck, he seeks to properly align the spine to release pressure on the nervous system. Chiropractic care seeks to not only alleviate the affected area but to restore and maintain proper movement and functionality throughout the entire body to increase overall well being.

Joint Dysfunction

Joint dysfunction can be caused by overuse, an injury, poor posture or muscle imbalance. It occurs when the joints become stiff and full movement is restricted. One of the main forms of joint dysfunction is sacroiliac joint dysfunction, which happens where the base of the spine meets the pelvic area. This type of joint dysfunction causes low back pain and can limit mobility.

Joint dysfunction can often be misdiagnosed as sciatica or a herniated disc, so it is imperative for Dr. Gonzales to perform a full evaluation before prescribing the correct form of treatment. Dr. Gonzales will return mobility to the affected joints and relieve pain using specific adjustments.

Neck Pain

Subluxations are misalignments of the vertebrae. When these subluxations occur along the spinal column of the neck, it can cause acute and chronic neck pain. The pain can become worse and lead to muscle spasms if it is left untreated. Dr. Gonzales adjusts the spine to restore the nervous system function. This adjustment allows the body to recover from the injury. It is a long term solution rather than a quick fix.

Back Pain

Back pain is by far the most common reason that people visit our chiropractic clinic in Bayonne. It is also the #1 reason that people miss work. Most people experience back pain at least one time in their lives. Chiropractic adjustments can improve your spinal function, ease or eliminate your pain and let you return to your normal daily functions.

Chiropractors have helped millions of patients with low back problems and have been at the forefront of helping them to avoid dangerous surgery or harmful pain medications.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is a common condition reported by our patients. The rotator cuff is made up of a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint. The job of the rotator cuff is to keep the head of the upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder. Rotator cuff injuries can cause debilitating pain in the shoulder. These injuries may also include swelling and inflammation as well as changes in the bone and tearing of the tendons. Chiropractic care can help to restore properly mobility, relieve pain and provide the body with the ability to quickly heal and recover from shoulder injuries.

Headaches and Migraines

Headaches are caused by tightness in the neck and shoulders which leads to misalignment in the vertebrae of the neck. 80% of all headaches originate from the neck. At Gonzales Chiropractic, we combine chiropractic adjustments to realign the neck along with massage therapy of the shoulders and neck area. Chiropractic care helps to provide a long term solution to eliminating the cause of the headaches rather than providing for short term relief in the form of masking medications.

Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the largest single nerve in the human body. It runs from each side of the lower spine through deep in the buttock into the back of the thigh and all the way down to the foot. It serves as a vital role in connecting the spine with the leg and foot muscles. When the sciatic nerve becomes irritated, usually through bulging discs, spinal subluxations or muscle spasms, it can result in pain, numbness and weakness in the lower back and leg. Chiropractic adjustments help to alleviate pressure on the discs. Ultimately, the sciatic nerve, which allows the body to function properly, provides pain relief and gives the body the ability to heal.

Pinched Nerve

A compressed or “squeezed” nerve is referred to as a pinched nerve. It can be caused by spinal misalignments, herniated discs, bulging discs or other factors. The increased pressure on the nerve causes pain, inflammation and muscle spasms. An examination can reveal the cause of the pain, and an adjustment can relieve the pain by properly aligning the spine and addressing the cause of the pain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The main culprit of carpal tunnel syndrome is the result of constantly using a computer. Typing is a motion that, when performed repetitively and with poor posture, can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Symptoms include pain, numbness, weakness or a burning sensation. With proper spinal or joint adjustments, Dr. Gonzales can relieve the pain that is associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Fibromyalgia

There is no specific known cause to fibromyalgia and the condition can be attributed to many factors. The main symptom of fibromyalgia is chronic pain throughout the body, mainly located in the joints. The pain varies from mild to severe and can be acute, radiating, burning or shooting. Fibromyalgia has also been known to bring on other conditions like trouble sleeping, headaches, depression and anxiety.

While there is not a known cure to fibromyalgia, chiropractic care has been shown to help uncover what may be causing the pain to provide relief. Adjustments and massage therapy can be used to help patients live a better life by alleviating pain, increase energy, improve circulation and boost the immune system to fight off the symptoms.
